The LPGA didn’t have to think long and hard when deciding who would be a good fit for its #DriveOn campaign. Mariah Stackhouse was everything they wanted and more.

Stackhouse was a four-time All-American at Stanford and helped the Cardinals win the national championship in 2015. She’s a 5’3” dynamo who is just the seventh African-American to play on the LPGA Tour.

“When you actually get to take time to listen to the commercial and the campaign, the messages are for any woman and any person who needs a source of inspiration and motivation to continue to drive on in whatever they do,” Stackhouse told The Mercury News.

The story of Stackhouse is truly inspiring. She started playing on public courses in Georgia on her way to becoming one of the most decorated players in the history of the state. Her parents pushed her to the best she could be and she formed an unwavering belief in herself.

“Never let anybody take away your belief,” she told Golfweek. “Never let not seeing a reflection of yourself in a particular area make you believe that space is not for you. Fill yourself up with the belief and drive on and go get it.”

Stackhouse has gotten after it on tour. Since turning pro in 2017, she has racked up more than $500,000 in earnings while posting four Top-10 finishes.

For all her success on the course, however, Stackhouse may be best known for her commercial for the #DriveOn campaign and this memorable tagline from it: 

“This is for every girl who doesn’t look like everyone who’s come before, but may look like those who follow.”
